This case study details how Ard Solutions implemented a National Early Warning Platform in Jordan designed to enhance the government’s preparedness and response to flash floods.
Jordan is one of the countries within the MENA region facing a heightened risk of climate-related disasters, particularly increasing instances of flash floods. According to the Jordan National Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Strategy 2019-2022, floods are a critical risk in the country. In 2018, flash floods resulted in 35 deaths, affected about 150,000 people and caused substantial damage to properties and infrastructure.
In response to the growing threat, the government partnered with Ard Solutions to deploy an advanced national early warning platform to transform Jordan’s approach to disaster preparedness and response.
This comprehensive case study explores the deployment of the platform and its impact on enhancing Jordan’s climate resilience.
The primary goal was to establish a robust early warning and climate security system capable of efficiently managing and responding to climate-related challenges.
This initiative aimed to transform the Eastern Province into a model of disaster preparedness and management, capable of withstanding and efficiently responding to climate-related challenges.
Enhancing the platform’s accessibility and usability supported a diverse range of end-users, including local municipalities, emergency responders and the broader community. Our approach promoted proactive decision-making and risk management through intuitive dashboards and customized, industry-specific products, equipping all stakeholders with essential tools for effective disaster response.
We collaborated with key stakeholders to create strategic plans targeting Jordan's most vulnerable areas, optimizing resource allocation for maximum efficiency.
We standardized all SOPs to ensure consistent and repeatable emergency responses across the board.
In this phase, we focused on enhancing system integration and communication effectiveness among response teams across Jordan, ensuring all stakeholders remain fully informed and responsive.
Our system runs on cloud technology, which allows us to manage and analyze large amounts of data in real time, as well as support quick decision-making and efficient dissemination of alerts to stakeholders. This also makes our system scalable and flexible, ensuring that the platform can handle increasing amounts of data and growing user needs without compromising performance.
We deployed advanced sensors and data collection methods to gather hyper-localized weather data from all over Jordan. This included data on precipitation, temperature, humidity, wind speed and other crucial meteorological factors for specific locations. This way, we were able to ensure high accuracy and precision in our forecasts and warnings, leading to more effective and targeted responses.
Our team created custom AI algorithms designed to process the collected data and generate accurate predictions of weather events, such as flash floods, thunderstorms and fog. These algorithms used advanced machine learning techniques to constantly enhance their predictive accuracy, adapting to changes in environmental conditions and improving the overall reliability of our early warning system.
Our platform features intuitive dashboards and user interfaces that make it easy for users to access and understand important weather information and decision-support tools. These dashboards clearly display weather forecasts, alert and risk assessments, enabling stakeholders to quickly understand potential threats and respond effectively. By focusing on ease of use, we ensure our platform meets the needs of a diverse range of users, from government agencies to local communities.
Using the data and insights collected throughout the earlier phases, our team refined our strategies and plans to bolster resilience against future events.
We focused on establishing sustainable disaster management processes that address immediate recovery needs while enhancing resilience and recovery from future disasters.
By continuously updating our approaches based on real-time data and feedback, we ensure that our disaster management systems are both effective and adaptive, paving the way for a more resilient future.
Our platform has revolutionized Jordan’s approach to managing flash floods and established a new benchmark for global disaster preparedness across the nation. The success of the implementation demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating advanced technology and artificial intelligence with strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.
We have significantly reduced the emergency response for flash flood events, thus mitigating the impact of floods, saving lives and reducing damage.
There has been an increase in community and institutional engagement with our disaster preparedness initiatives. Both government authorities and residents are now better prepared and more aware of the steps to take in the event of flash floods.
By enhancing the accuracy of prediction and response capabilities, we have helped reduce both human and material losses. With increased resilience, citizens and infrastructure are more protected, and economic disruptions are minimized.
